Free check, takes under a minute
Is your EPUB accessible?
Upload an EPUB. We run EPUBCheck and DAISY Ace on it and tell you in plain words what they found, and which accessibility metadata is missing.
What happens to your file. The file is sent to our server over https, checked with no internet access, and deleted as soon as the check ends, before you see the result. We do not store it, copy it or read it. The only thing we keep in a log is its size and how long the check took. Free use is limited to 5 checks per hour from one address and 50 MB per file.
What this checks
Two well-known open-source tools, run on your file: EPUBCheck, the official validator of the EPUB format, and DAISY Ace, the checker used by the publishing industry for EPUB accessibility. We add a third look: whether the book declares the accessibility metadata that the European Accessibility Act era expects from publishers, such as access mode, features, hazards, a summary and a conformance statement.
What this does not do
- It is not a full WCAG audit. Automatic tools find only part of the problems; the rest needs a person.
- No person tests the book with a screen reader. Reading order, the quality of alt text and whether a table makes sense when read aloud cannot be judged by a program.
- A result with no violations is not a statement that the book is accessible or compliant with any law or standard. We promise no result and give no legal advice.
- If the check cannot complete, it says so. We never treat an error or a busy server as "no problem".
Want help fixing what was found? We build accessible books for publishers and authors, see typesetting and book production, or write to us on the contact page, in writing. You do not need to buy anything: the check above stays free.
