Scientific LaTeX typesetting
Books, journal papers and theses in mathematics, physics, chemistry, engineering, computer science and biomedicine. Taken from a handwritten manuscript through to the final stage, the way scientific publishers actually need it done.
Production typesetting for scientific and technical publishers in the US and Europe, most of it unattributed and under confidentiality.
The printed record
My name is printed in the front matter of Nova Science Publishers titles in New York, across 2003 to 2005, in editorial production. Over 70 of those volumes are traceable in Google Books today. The actual number credited is higher, because only part of that catalogue was ever digitised.
You do not have to take my word for any of it. One search returns the volumes, with my name visible inside the scanned credits page of each one.
Most typesetting work is unattributed. That is normal in this trade: the publisher and the author are named, the compositor is not, and much of it sits under confidentiality terms. So the credits below are the exceptions rather than the record. Where I am named, the ISBN is given and you can check it.
Named projects
Three I am free to name. Current client work stays private unless the client asks otherwise.
Three Mills and Coimbra third editions: Basic Heat and Mass Transfer, Basic Heat Transfer, Mass Transfer
A. F. Mills, Professor Emeritus of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering, UCLA, and C. F. M. Coimbra, Professor of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering, UC San Diego
Temporal Publishing, 2015-2016. ISBN 978-0-9963053-0-3 and 978-0-9963053-3-4
The authors self-published this edition, and to do that the previous edition had to be converted to LaTeX first. Their own preface calls that conversion a major project in itself. I did the conversion. The second edition had left behind a publisher class that no longer worked, so I repaired and extended it rather than starting over, and rebuilt the book so the authors could own the source and keep editing it themselves. A thousand pages of heat and mass transfer, and the most complex LaTeX project I have taken on. They went on to publish two further third editions from the same source, and the authors named me in the acknowledgements of all three.
The publisher page for the bookEuclidean and Transformational Geometry: A Deductive Inquiry
Shlomo Libeskind, Professor of Mathematics, University of Oregon
Jones and Bartlett Publishers, 2008
Typeset from the handwritten manuscript through to the final stage. The author named me in the acknowledgements, on page ix of the Preface, which you can read in the Google Books preview. The book is still in print and sold internationally, and a revised edition is now published by Springer.
Read the acknowledgement, page ixJournal papers and monographs, twenty years of them
Authors at universities in the United States, Japan, Italy, South Africa and the United Kingdom
Physics, pure mathematics, statistics and engineering
Theoretical and condensed-matter physics, convex geometry, real analysis, statistics and construction risk, prepared to the submission rules of the journal or proceedings in each case, including REVTeX, World Scientific and university house styles. Most of this work is not credited and the clients are not named here, because that is what they engaged me for. What it looks like from the inside is version numbers: the papers ran to twenty and thirty revisions, the books to sixty and seventy. Corrections are the job.

What the work covers
From whatever you have now, to a file a publisher or a journal will accept.
Keyboarding from any source
Handwritten, hard copy, scanned or word-processed manuscripts, rekeyed or converted into clean LaTeX source. Word to LaTeX conversion at volume is routine work here, not an exception.
Full page composition
Margins, chapter and body styles, image and table placement, landscape sections, first-page and even-odd running heads, page numbering, and float placement that does not fight the text.
Front matter and back matter
Title page, preface, about the author, appendices, bibliography, references and a generated table of contents, all built to the publisher or journal specification.
Heavy mathematics
Displayed and aligned multi-line equations, matrices, theorem environments, chemical structures and dense tabular material. This is the part most general typesetters decline.
Proofs and corrections
PDF page proofs for review, then as many correction rounds as the work needs. Corrections are where a book is won or lost, because one change can reflow an entire volume.
Publisher and journal specs
Submission rules for a named journal, a publisher house style, or a university thesis template, applied exactly rather than approximately.
Price
USD 5.00
per manuscript page
Prices exclude VAT. VAT is added where it applies.
Send the manuscript, or a representative sample of it, and say what the target is: a publisher, a named journal, or a thesis template. You get a fixed quote and a delivery window before anything starts.
