Academic publishing and typesetting
How we use AI
What the software and AI do in my publishing work, and what they never decide.
What the software and AI do
- They check a manuscript against the publisher's own house rules, the ones the publisher gives me in writing.
- They find problems and point to the page and the line where each one is. Every finding names the page and the line, so you can look at it yourself in seconds.
- They build the files: PDF, EPUB and XML from the approved source.
What AI never decides
- Editorial or acceptance decisions. Those belong to the editor and the publisher.
- Peer-review judgement. I do not assess the quality or the conclusions of research.
- Research-integrity or misconduct verdicts. I do not screen for misconduct and I do not say that anyone has committed it.
- Any change to the author's text without a person approving it. A suggestion stays a suggestion until a person accepts it.
Who checks the work
- I, Marius Andronie, review every delivery myself and sign it off before it leaves.
- Each finding is checked against the source document. If I cannot point to the place in the source, it is not reported. Nothing is invented to fill a report.
