Connecting a Data Room to Claude via MCP: Which Platforms Support It (2026)

Short answer: as of October 2026, several data room vendors publish an MCP connection that Claude can use. Datasite and Intralinks (DealCentre) describe live deal-room access that follows each user's existing permissions, Ansarada offers a read-only index of rooms on request, and Papermark ships a hosted and a local server. Which one you can use depends on the room your deal is already in, because the connector is a switch the data room vendor controls, not something you add to a room from the outside.

Facts below were read on the vendors' own pages on 9 October 2026. This area changes fast, so each one is dated and linked.

What "connect a data room to Claude" actually means

MCP, the Model Context Protocol, is the open standard Claude uses to talk to outside systems. A connector is a small server that sits in front of a system and exposes a set of actions: list rooms, search documents, read a file. Once you add it, Claude can call those actions during a chat, so your deal team can ask a question about a document or a financial schedule without downloading the file and pasting it in.

Two things follow from that.

First, the connector lives on the data room's side. If your vendor has not built one, you cannot bolt one on without exporting the documents, and exporting out of a confidential room is exactly what most NDAs and room rules try to prevent.

Second, the quality of the setup is decided by permissions. A connector that inherits each user's existing access is a different thing from one that holds a single broad token. Always find out which one you are getting.

What each platform publishes (as of 9 October 2026)

PlatformWhat it says it doesAccess control it statesCatch
DatasiteMCP server launched 28 April 2026. Works with Claude, ChatGPT, Copilot and Blueflame AI across Prepare and Diligence: set up rooms, semantic search, summaries with citations, buyer Q&A draftsSame access controls as the room; every interaction loggedNeeds a Datasite account enabled for MCP; no pricing or rollout timing published
Intralinks (DealCentre)DealCentre MCP is a remote MCP server built into DealCentre; DealCentre Connect names Claude as an external AI applicationValidated against the user's existing DealCentre permissions; buyer-group isolation and confidential Q&A boundaries still applyThe guide gives no launch date, pricing, plan tiers or setup steps
AnsaradaArticle dated 8 September 2026: phase one is read-only and exposes profile information, accessible rooms and the document indexUser signs in with their own Ansarada login; the tool sees what that user already seesDoes not provide document content. Enabled per data room, on request, and applies to every role in that room
PapermarkOfficial MCP server with 43 tools. Hosted version at mcp.papermark.com/mcp for claude.ai connectors (OAuth), or a local server for Claude DesktopScoped API tokens, revocable from the dashboardThe API token it needs is listed for Business plans and above

A few notes on reading that table honestly. Every row is the vendor describing its own product, and Datasite's claim to be "the first" data room provider with MCP is its own wording, not an independent finding. I did not verify iDeals, DealRoom, Firmex or Merrill from vendor-published pages, so I make no statement about them either way. If your room is with one of them, ask the vendor directly whether an MCP connection exists and what it can read.

The folder-sharing route: Box and Dropbox

Many small deals never use a formal data room. The seller shares a Box or Dropbox folder. Both vendors publish Claude connectors, and both are worth knowing about, with an important limit: they are file storage, not deal rooms, so they do not offer buyer-group isolation, a Q&A workflow or a room-level audit trail of the kind a data room provides.

Dropbox's help page says the Dropbox connector (for claude.ai and the Claude desktop app) requires Claude admin enablement, that it respects your existing file permissions and admin controls, and that Claude cannot save images or PDFs back to Dropbox (Dropbox help). Box announced that its Claude connector now supports MCP Apps, which show visual previews inside the chat (Box). That Box page gives no date, plan or permission detail, so check Box's developer documentation before relying on it for a confidential folder.

How to add a connector to Claude

Once the vendor tells you the connection is enabled, the Claude side is short. Per Anthropic's help article on custom connectors, remote MCP connectors can be added on Free, Pro, Max, Team and Enterprise plans, with Free limited to one custom connector. On Team plans only Owners can add them, and on Enterprise a custom role with the right library permission can. After an admin adds the connector, each person connects to it individually (Anthropic help).

The steps, in order:

  1. ✓Ask the data room vendor to enable MCP for your account or room, and get the server URL and sign-in method in writing.
  2. ✓In Claude, add a custom connector with the name and URL. Anthropic's article describes OAuth sign-in or fixed request headers.
  3. ✓Each team member signs in with their own data room login, so their access is their own.
  4. ✓Test with a restricted user before the whole team is on it (see the next section).

Four checks before you point an AI at a confidential room

  1. ✓Permissions. Sign in as the most restricted person on the deal, such as someone in a different buyer group, and ask for something they should not see. It should come back empty or refused. If you cannot run that test, you do not yet know what the connection exposes.
  2. ✓The NDA and room rules. Whether your NDA or the seller's room terms allow an AI tool to read the documents is a legal question for your counsel, not a technical one. Read the terms of the Claude plan you use as well, since confidentiality and data-use terms differ by plan.
  3. ✓Room-wide switches. Ansarada's article says enabling MCP applies to every role in the room. A decision that affects every party in a room should not be made by one person on the deal team.
  4. ✓What is actually readable. A connector that lists documents but cannot read their content, as in Ansarada's first phase, is useful for navigation and little else. Ask whether the assistant reads page text, tables and scanned pages, or just filenames.

Connected is not the same as verified

A connection solves access. It does not solve the older problem: a chat model will answer a question about a financial schedule with a plausible figure whether or not the page supports it. Giving Claude live access to the room makes it easier to ask and faster to get an answer, which also makes it easier to act on a confident wrong one.

The habit that fixes that is the same one we describe in how to use Claude for due diligence: every figure comes with the quoted line and page it came from, and a claim with no quote is cut. If you want that discipline packaged as prompts, see Claude agents for M&A diligence, cite or cut. For the model question, see Claude vs ChatGPT for due diligence, and for what Anthropic's finance templates do and do not include, see the private equity plugin vs a turnkey tool.

When connecting a room is the wrong move

If you are buying one small company and the seller sends a folder of PDFs, you probably do not need MCP at all. A connector only exists where the room's vendor has built and enabled one, so on a small deal the realistic Claude route is uploading files into a chat and doing the verification yourself.

The alternative is a tool that reads the uploaded documents and returns a cited brief. We build one, Deal OS, for buyers of small companies, and you can try it without an account in the sandbox. It is one option among several, not the answer for every deal: if your room sits on Datasite or Intralinks and your firm has the access, a connector that works inside the room is a legitimate and probably better fit. Our comparison of tools is in best due diligence software.

Frequently asked questions

Can I connect my data room to Claude through MCP? Only if your data room vendor supports it. As of October 2026 Datasite, Intralinks DealCentre, Ansarada and Papermark publish MCP connections, with different scope and access conditions. The vendor enables it, so ask them for the server URL and sign-in method before you plan around it.

Does the AI see documents a user is not allowed to see? Datasite and Intralinks state that access follows the user's existing room permissions, and Ansarada says the tool sees what that user already sees. These are vendor statements, so test with a restricted account before trusting them on a live deal.

Which Claude plan do I need for a custom connector? Anthropic's help article says custom connectors are available on Free, Pro, Max, Team and Enterprise plans, with Free limited to one. On Team plans an Owner must add the connector first. Check the article for current terms, since plan details change.

Can Claude read the documents or only list them? It depends on the vendor. Datasite describes semantic search and cited summaries of room content. Ansarada's first phase, dated September 2026, covers the document index only, not content. Ask each vendor which file types, tables and scans the connector reads.

Is it safe to let an AI read a confidential deal room? That depends on your permissions test, the NDA and room terms, and the data-use terms of your Claude plan. Those are legal and contractual checks to settle with counsel first. Technically, a connector that inherits user permissions and keeps an audit trail is the stronger design.

Do I need MCP for a small business acquisition? Usually not. Small deals typically arrive as a folder of PDFs, so uploading to a tool that reads and cites them is simpler. MCP earns its keep on larger rooms where the vendor has built the connector and your firm already has an account in that room.
